LIPS PRE-CARE ADVICE

Please read through this before arriving at your appointment. Following the instructions below will ensure proper healing from the procedure and the best possible results.

PRE-CARE ADVICE

  • If you have a history of cold sores (herpes simplex) and are scheduling a lip tattoo we advise you to use anti-herpes medication for example Zovirax ointment that can be obtained from a chemist. Use the preparation 1-week prior and 1-week after your enhancement 5 times a day to reduce the incidence of outbreak by 50%. Oral anti-herpes medication (Acyclovir) will control the incidence of an outbreak more or less completely. PMU does not cause cold sores, however if you carry the virus, it lays dormant in the nervous system and can be aroused by the infusion process.

  • IPL laser hair removal around the mouth should be carried out no less than 2 weeks prior to your procedure.

  • Waxing and bleaching treatments should be performed no less than 2 weeks prior to your procedure.

  • Electrolysis treatments should be performed no less than 2 weeks prior to your procedure.

  • Dermal fillers in the lip should be performed no less than 4 weeks prior to your procedure.

  • Permanent makeup adds colour into the skin so expectations must be managed.

  • Prepare to drink through a straw for a few days after.

  • Lightly exfoliating your lips to remove dry dead skin will help with better retention.

  • Keep your lips moisturized - do not turn up to the appointment with chapped lips.

  • Bring in your favourite lip colour for everyday wear to your appointment.

  • Avoid spicy/salty foods for at least 3 days.

  • Drink only through straw for 3 days.

  • No kissing for a minimum of 5 days to prevent infection.

  • Do not receive lip filler/enhancements.

IMPORTANT NOTES

  • If you suffer or have suffered from cold sores, use an anti-herpes medication(such as Zovirax) 5 times daily for a period of 1 week, or Acyclovir tablets a few days before or after your tattoo. If a cold sore outbreak does occur, it will generally begin on a day 3 of the healing process. This is not caused by your tattoo or your artist. herpes lies dormant in the nervous system forever and can reappear if you are exposed to trauma.

  • Remember, your selected colour will be stronger and more sharply defined immediately after your tattoo. The next day, your lips will appear darker in colour.

  • After the skin has flaked/peeled away from your lips(during days 3-5) your lips will appear as if little or no colour is present. This is normal and part of the healing process.

  • In the 3 weeks following this, the colour will blossom into a considerably softer version of the original colour.

  • The approximate healing period is 14 days, however, healing can be prolonged if your immune system is compromised or if you are generally stressed, or by poor diet.

  • Keep in mind that in many cases, some unevenness of coloUr is to be expected. This is why we book a touchup appointment-allowing us to fine tune your lip tattoo.

  • If you have booked a touch-up appointment but you do not attend your scheduled appointment you will be charged for any further treatments.
